Amman airport evacuated due to electrical short

Dozens of passengers were evacuated from the main passenger terminal of Amman's Queen Alia International Airport Sunday as smoke was seen billowing from the building, according to security sources. "There have been no casualties, the situation is under control. It was an electrical short," Captain Suleiman Obeidat, Jordan's head of civil aviation, told The Associated Press. Obeidat denied that the short had caused a fire. Another security source said that melting wires were the cause of the smoke. International air traffic continued in and out of the capital, Obeidat said, explaining that all flights were diverted to another airport in Amman.
