Anti-Syrian minister threatens Lebanese boycott of Arab Summit in Damascus

A key anti-Syrian Cabinet member threatened Sunday that Lebanon would boycott an upcoming Arab summit in Damascus, saying the country's attendance at the meeting would amount to "treason." Many anti-Syrian politicians in the ruling coalition have urged the Lebanese government not to attend the summit, but Telecommunications Minister Marwan Hamadeh was one of the first to predict that the Cabinet would vote for a boycott when it meets this week. "The government of Lebanon will decide not to attend the Arab summit in Damascus," Hamadeh said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station. "It is essential for Lebanon not to sit around a summit table chaired by [Syrian President] Bashar Assad, who will try to cover up his crimes." Sunday.
