Barak to travel to Egypt on Wednesday to meet with Mubarak

Defense Minister Ehud Barak will travel to Egypt on Wednesday to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak against the backdrop of Hamas truce overtures, security officials said. The officials would not say whether the two men would discuss efforts to release kidnapped IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit, captured by Hamas-linked gunmen in a June 2006 cross-border raid. But Israel will restate its demand that the Egyptians do more to stop Palestinians from smuggling into Gaza weapons and other contraband from Egypt, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the diplomatic and military talks.
