Blair appoints State Department official to oversee office in Jerusalem

International Mideast envoy Tony Blair has tapped a senior US diplomat to run his office in Jerusalem. Blair's office says Robert Danin will serve as his new head of mission. Danin will take a leave from his current job as deputy assistant secretary of state for Near East Affairs. Announcing the appointment Sunday, Blair's office said Danin has extensive experience working on Mideast issues for the State Department and the White House. Blair became a Mideast envoy last year shortly after stepping down as British prime minister. In his post, Blair is leading an international effort to develop the Palestinian economy.
