A two-year-old Palestinian child was killed during gunfights between Fatah and Hamas operatives in Gaza on Thursday night, local medical officials told news agencies. According to Army Radio, one of the child's relatives was wounded in the clashes, as well. This was the second incident of inter-faction violence since the two rival Palestinian groups joined to form a unity government on Saturday in hopes of putting a stop to the fighting in the West Bank and Gaza. The first incident occurred on Wednesday evening, when an Islamic University lecturer affiliated with Hamas was kidnapped by gunmen in the Gaza Strip. The professor, Hamad al-Sousi, was abducted as he was leaving evening prayers, Hamas reported.
