Denmark's foreign minister urged the West on Tuesday to exert efforts to help bring peace in the Middle east and said Syria was willing to be "part of the solution."
Wrapping up a two-day visit to Damascus, Per Stig Moller said he had "very constructive" talks Syrian President Bashar Assad and other officials, mainly about launching new peace talks with Israel.
Moller urged Syria, which has been isolated by the United States and some of its Western allies for supporting anti-US militant fighters in Iraq and anti-Israel factions like the Hamas and the Lebanese Hizbullah group, to be part of the solution in the Middle East.
"We feel around the world that Syria is part of the problem" through its relations with Hizbullah and Hamas, said Moller. But talks with Assad and other officials had however convinced him that "Damascus is willing to be part of the solution," Moller said.
