Egyptian security forces found a weapons cache containing TNT, landmines and rockets on Monday evening, Capt. Muhammad Badr of the Northern Sinai Police Unit said.
Nine Egyptian Islamic extremists were also arrested in central Sinai, an Interior Ministry official in Cairo said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the press. The official did not give the reason for the arrest or say if they were involved in any plots.
The Sinai has witnessed a string of deadly terrorist attacks that have killed 125 people in popular tourist resorts since 2004.
