El Salvador reduces Iraq troop contingent to 300

El Salvador will lower its troop contingent in Iraq this week from 380 to 300 and expects to make further reductions "as the situation there improves," President Tony Saca said Monday. The new, smaller contingent will be commissioned for deployment on Tuesday and will serve a six-month rotation. "We have reduced by 80 soldiers the number of troops that will be included in the ninth deployment," the conservative president told reporters. "As the situation in Iraq improves, we will continue to reduce the number of soldiers."
