The European Union on Thursday granted Jordan US$350 million (€265 million ) to boost the kingdom's political, economic and social reforms, according to an EU-Jordan agreement.
The grant was announced during a visit to the kingdom of EU's Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner. The package will focus on several priorities including trade and investment, employment, water and energy.
The EU is one of Jordan's major donors. Since 1997, Jordan has received more than €630 million (US$800 million) in financial aid through a European assistance program.
Ferrero-Waldner on Thursday held talks with King Abdullah's regent Prince Ali bin al-Hussein that focused on the current situation in the Middle East and the Jordanian monarch's efforts to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations, the official Petra news agency said.
