A military prosecutor on Thursday charged a former Cabinet minister and adviser to King Abdullah II with slandering the monarch and harming national unity, according to the indictment.
After his arraignment, abu-Odeh told journalists he believed in "the fairness of Jordanian justice" and refused to comment further.
The case centers on remarks that abu-Odeh made on Al-Jazeera satellite television on Oct. 21 when he allegedly criticized the royal family and the government's treatment of Jordanians of Palestinian origin.
If convicted, abu-Odeh could be sentenced up to three years in jail.
