Explosion near IDF post in Hebron

A Palestinian threw an explosive device at an Israeli army post near a holy site in the West Bank city of Hebron after nightfall Monday, residents said. No one was hurt. The military would say only that there was an explosion. Hebron is divided into Palestinian and Israeli-controlled zones, with Israeli troops controlling an area of the center of the city, where about 500 Jewish settlers live. There are frequent clashes between the settlers and Palestinians. The conflict centers on the tomb of the Patriarchs, holy to Muslims, Jews and Christians. The cave is the traditional burial site of the biblical patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and three of their wives. In recent days, tensions have risen because of new Israeli security measures. Palestinians have objected to soldiers searching young school pupils.
