Several officials in Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party called on him to resign and dissolve the Palestinian Authority to protest Israel's raid of a West Bank prison earlier this week, party officials said.
The raid, in which Israel seized the assassins of Israeli cabinet minister Rehavam Ze'evi, was seen as a humiliating blow to Abbas' prestige and raised new questions in Fatah about their president's ability to govern, especially following Hamas' landslide victory in January's Palestinian Legislative Council elections.
