Fayad warns civil servants he'll dock pay for each strike day

The Palestinian Authority prime minister has taken on the powerful civil servants' union, saying he'll dock the pay of striking union members.
The union has held repeated warning strikes in recent months, calling for wage increases.
Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayad said Thursday that every strike day would be deducted from the employees' salaries. He says civil servants have received 27 percent salary increases in the past three years, and that the government cannot afford to pay them more.
Union chief Jamil Shehadeh says the civil servants will not back down.
