Palestinian gunmen on Wednesday set up an impromptu roadblock at the Gaza-Egypt border and started preventing travelers from reaching the Rafah crossing there.
The gunmen are from the Al Aksa Martyrs' Brigades, a violent offshoot of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party. They set up the roadblock after their leader, Alaa al-Hams, was detained late Tuesday on suspicion he was involved in the kidnapping of a British aid worker and her parents last week.
Al-Hams' gunmen also seized three public buildings in the southern Gaza town of Rafah on Wednesday.
