Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh will leave the Gaza Strip for a tour of Arab countries in the coming days, a Hamas official said Wednesday.
Health Minister Bassem Naim, who is close to Haniyeh, said the itinerary still hasn't been finalized. "Everything is under preparation," he said.
He said it remained unclear whether Haniyeh would visit Jordan, which has offered to mediate between Hamas and the rival Fatah faction. The two Palestinian groups declared a cease-fire on Tuesday, ending days of fighting that left 36 people dead.
Haniyeh has turned to Muslim countries, especially Iran, for financial support. However, his government remains mired in debt and unable to pay its 165,000 workers.
