A leader of Ansar al-Sunnah, a group linked to al-Qaida in Iraq that is responsible for kidnappings and beheadings, has been captured by Iraqi and US forces, the prime minister's office said Saturday.
Muntasir Hamoud Ileiwi al-Jubouri and two of his aides were arrested in Muqdadiyah, 90 kilometers northeast of Baghdad late Friday, said Brig. Qassim al-Mussawi, spokesman for the General Command of the Armed Forces.
The Sunni militant group, made up mostly of Kurds, has claimed responsibility for hostage executions and numerous suicide attacks.
Ansar al-Sunnah is part of an umbrella organization of insurgent groups co-founded by Jordanian-born terrorist mastemnind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
