Iraq: bomber strikes minority sect, killing nine

A suicide attacker driving a fuel truck struck members of the minority Yazidi sect in northwestern Iraq on Tuesday, killing at least nine people and wounding 14, police said. The blast occurred about 8 p.m. in a residential complex housing Yazidis in the town of Qahataniya, 120 kilometers west of Mosul, police Brig. Gen. Maawad Ahmed said. Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack. But it bore the hallmark of al-Qaida, which has been regrouping in the north of the country after being driven from safe havens in Anbar and Diyala provinces.
