A US soldier was killed by an explosion in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, the military said Thursday.
Four American soldiers were also wounded in the blast, which took place Wednesday, the military said in a statement.
The victims' names were withheld pending family notification.
At least 3,865 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians.
