Japan may delay the withdrawal of its troops from southern Iraq because of continuing instability in the country, the Japanese foreign minister said Sunday.
His remarks went against news reports that had speculated Japan would complete the pullout of its 600 troops from southern Iraq as early as May.
"The creation of the Iraqi government is in no way complete," Aso said on a talk show broadcast by TV Asahi on Sunday.
"We can't make definite decisions on withdrawal until the security and political situation becomes clearer," he said.
