Kuwait's first female minister quits after hospital blaze kills two

Kuwait's first female minister presented her resignation from the health portfolio on Saturday in the wake of a hospital fire and a parliamentary investigation, the official Kuwaiti news agency reported. The resignation of Massouma al-Mubarak, who was appointed in March, came after a fire broke out Thursday in a public hospital killing two patients and two lawmakers submitted a request to have her questioned in front of the legislative body over the deterioration of the country's health services. Al-Mubarak, a US-educated political science professor, was first appointed minister of planning three years ago, then minister of transportation.
