Lebanese army troops battled al-Qaida-inspired militants who attempted to flee a besieged Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon on Sunday, killing or capturing many, the military command said. In a statement, the army said that troops were attacking the remaining strongholds of the Fatah Islam fighters in Nahr el-Bared camp and "chasing the fugitives outside the camp." It called on Lebanese citizens to inform the nearest army patrol of any suspected militant in their area. The army said the militants attacked army positions "in a desperate attempt to flee" and troops engaged them. It did not give details, only saying "a large number was killed and captured."
