Lebanese government to deploy forces on Thursday

The Lebanese government announced on Wednesday that it would begin deploying the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon as early as Thursday. The Lebanese Armed Forces will be the only ones to bear weapons, the government said. Channel 1 assessed that three brigades would be deployed to augment the current two already slated to take over the area from Israel. The announcement came in stark contradiction to the statement made by a Hizbullah minister earlier in the afternoon, asserting that Hizbullah's disarmament was not on the agenda.
