No word of US reporter in Iraq after deadline ends

A deadline set by kidnappers threatening to kill American journalist Jill Carroll unless all Iraqi women detainees were freed passed Friday without word on the hostage's fate.
US negotiators continued working around the clock in an effort to secure Carroll's release as Muslims from Baghdad to Paris urged the militants to free the 28-year-old woman and end Iraq's wave of kidnappings.
Kidnappers issued their threat in videotape sent to Al-Jazeera television on Tuesday. The station said the kidnappers set a 72-hour deadline for their demands to be met. As of midnight Friday Baghdad time, there was no statement from the kidnappers and no indication either detainees or Carroll had been freed.
