Palestinian government employees will receive their overdue January salaries before the weekend, despite a severe budget crisis, the deputy Palestinian finance minister said Thursday.
The Palestinian Authority borrowed some of the money for the payroll from banks, after several Arab countries that had promised millions in financial aid did not transfer the money, said the deputy minister, Jihad al-Wazir.
"Starting today, employees of the Palestinian Authority will have their salaries in their bank accounts," al-Wazir said. "So far, we haven't gotten the money from the Arab countries, but we managed to get the salaries from the banks."
