Palestinian FM calls on world not to stop aid

Palestinian Foreign Minister Nasser Al-Kidwa urged the international community Tuesday not to cut off funding to the Palestinian Authority as it has threatened to do once Hamas takes power. "The aid for Palestinians should continue, despite the political situation and the parties that are in government," Al-Kidwa said after meeting German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The West, including the European Union, has warned it would cut close to $1 billion in annual aid to the Palestinians if Hamas forms the next government without renouncing violence. Hamas, which has killed dozens of Israelis in suicide attacks, swept Palestinian parliamentary elections last month, and has rejected international demands to recognize Israel.
