The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC) will soon become a political movement, allowing it to run in Palestinian Authority elections, the group's spokesman, Abu-Mujahad, told the Ramattan news agency on Wednesday.
"The process will start in a few days. We will be a political movement in every way, with media advisers, a political leadership and we will maintain the Salah a-Din Brigades which will be our military wing," said Abu-Mujahad.
He said that in the movement's platform will be the continued support for the "main choice of the Palestinian people - armed resistance against the Zionist occupation."
While the movement's leaders, Abu Mujahid said, were "familiar to every Palestinian," he refused to divulge their names.
Regarding the timing of the announcement, Abu Mujahid said that the PRC was now the need and interest of the Palestinian people.
"The Palestinians need a new vision that will defend their struggle and support them against all the conspirators that are plotting against the Palestinian people," he said.
Abu Mujahid stressed, however, that the movement would accept Mahmoud Abbas as PA chairman and the Palestinian Legislative Council as the Palestinian elected body.
The PRC is responsible for a string of terror attacks against Israelis including the murder of Tali Hatuel and her four daughters in 2004.
The group was also involved in the capture of IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit.
Earlier Wednesday, Abu Mujahid was quoted as saying that Egyptian representatives would return to Gaza to try and advance talks over the release of captured IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit.
In an interview with the Palestinian news agency Ma'an, Abu-Mojahad said that all matters dealing with Schalit were conducted in the Gaza Strip, despite the fact that the official Egyptian envoy moved to Ramallah following the Hamas takeover.
