Quartet makes conditions on PA aid

The International Quartet said on Tuesday that it would continue to give aid to the Palestinians only on certain conditions. The Quartet insisted that Hamas vow to stop violence, to stick to prior agreements made by the Palestinian Authority and that they accept Israel's right to exist. A representative of the group said that the Palestinian Authority should establish a coalition that is committed to upholding the law, tolerance and one that is financially accountable. The Quartet called on Israel to stop settlement activity and expressed concern over the route of the separation fence. Senior Hamas representative Sami Abu Zori replied that the Quartet's demands needed to be met by Israel before it "requests the occupied to recognize the occupiers."
