Sarkozy heads to Bethlehem for talks with Abbas

French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived in Bethlehem on Tuesday for talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The visit to the West Bank is Sarkozy's only meeting with Palestinian leaders during his three-day visit to the region, which marks Israel's 60th anniversary and is aimed primarily at cementing the improved relations between France and Israel after years of frosty ties. Sarkozy has met with Israeli leaders, given a speech before the Knesset and had a sit-down with the parents of kidnapped IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Schalit, who has French citizenship.
