Saudi Arabia beheads national convicted of murder

Saudi authorities on Wednesday beheaded a Saudi man convicted of shooting to death a fellow national, the Interior Ministry said. Fawaz Bin Ali al-Harithi shot Mohammed Bin Faleh after a dispute, a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency said. It did not explain the nature of the dispute. Both the initial killing and the subsequent execution took place in the Muslim holy city of Mecca, the ministry said. Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which those convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery are executed in public with a sword.
