Senior government official assassinated in northern Baghdad

A roadside bomb has killed a senior government official in northern Baghdad, an Iraqi official said Tuesday. A spokesman said the bomb hit Dhia Jodi Jaber, a director general at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, as he left his home in his car. The spokesman, Abdullah al-Lami, said Jaber, 64, was the director general of the ministry's projects and reconstruction department. His son was also lightly wounded in the 7:30 a.m. blast.
