Three British troops killed in southern Iraq

An attack on a British military compound in southern Iraq has left three troops killed and several others wounded, a military spokesman said Friday. Maj. Matthew Bird said the incident occurred in the southern city of Basra Thursday when the Airport Camp came under several indirect fire attacks. Indirect fire is a term usually used for mortars and rockets. He added that one of the attacks "unfortunately resulted in the death of three British Service personnel belonging to the Royal Air Force. A number of personnel were also injured, and some of them remain in the military hospital at the airport for treatment."
