Three huge explosions heard in Beirut

An IAF airstrike on the southern Beirut suburbs shortly after nightfall Monday killed at least five people, rocking the Lebanese capital with three loud explosions, Lebanese police said. Security officials said there were at least 20 total casualties. The strike occurred within two hours of the departure of Arab foreign ministers who had gathered in the Lebanese capital in a show of support for the government. Lebanese security officials had initially claimed the blasts were caused by Israel naval artillery firing on the southern suburbs from ships off the Mediterranean coast. Earlier Monday, Israeli warplanes repeatedly pounded the district, a Hizbullah stronghold that is largely in ruins.
