Turkey's FM goes to Iran to solve nuclear standoff

Turkey's Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul flew to Iran on Saturday to relay a message of reconciliation to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to help solve the standoff over Tehran's nuclear program. Gul told reporters he was carrying a message from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan urging Teheran to cooperate with the international community to eliminate concerns over its nuclear program. Iran says its program is for peaceful energy purposes but the US believes it is geared toward making nuclear weapons. Gul will also meet with Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, and had requested a meeting with Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Gul recently met with the Iranian foreign minister in Baku, Azerbaijan.
