Two PA police wounded in Rafah blast
Gunmen explode bomb near police guarding EU monitors; gunbattle ensues.
Two Palestinian policemen were wounded on Friday when unidentified gunmen exploded a small bomb near Palestinian police guarding European Union monitors at the Egypt-Gaza border crossing of Rafah, Palestinian officials said.
The incident came just moments after the crossing opened for the first time in a month.
None of the EU monitors was hurt, said Hatem Barhoum, a senior police official in Gaza.
Police responded by opening fire, and a gunbattle ensued.
The incident took place inside the Gaza portion of the border terminal, and was corroborated by other Palestinian officials inside the building.
