Britain has made an offer to Israel and to the Palestinian Authority to deploy supervisors on the Gaza-Israel border to ensure that the cease-fire is upheld, the Palestinian radio station Voice of Palestine quoted Palestinian media sources as saying on Monday.
In addition, Palestinian sources said troops from the Badr Brigade, which belongs to the armed wing of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, were due to arrive in the Gaza Strip next week from Jordan to aid in restoring calm to the region.
A cease-fire not worth crowing about
Meanwhile, Saeb Erekat, spokesman for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, said the PA leader may meet with US President George W. Bush when Bush visits Jordan later this week.
"It's possible. I think he [Abbas] is going to Amman," Erekat told Army Radio.
Erekat also said Abbas hoped a cease-fire that took hold in the Gaza Strip on Sunday could be expanded to include the West Bank. "I hope that we are going to move in the next two days to have similar arrangements in the West Bank," Erekat said in the radio interview.
Israel Radio had reported earlier that Abbas was set to meet Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in the near future.US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is expected to be present at their meeting.
