US assessment of Iraq is a mixed review

A Bush administration's report on Iraq, to be released Thursday, will show there has been satisfactory progress on eight benchmarks, unsatisfactory progress on another eight and mixed results on other two, administration officials said. The mixed-results review largely shows that the Iraqis have made little progress on many of their political goals, including enacting long-promised legislation, but have met some goals to reduce violence and increase security, said the officials, who requested anonymity because the report had not yet been made public.
