US airstrikes killed 14 terror suspects and destroyed a foreign fighter safe house Saturday during a raid south of Baqouba that also led to the capture of two other suspects, the military said.
The military said the raid was targeting an unidentified foreign fighter believed responsible for multiple attacks on Iraqi and coalition forces in the area.
Several suspects began to flee the targeted house and surrounding buildings, while others were spotted maneuvering against the US forces, according to a statement.
The ground forces called in air support, which killed 14 enemy fighters and destroyed the targeted building to prevent it from being used as a terrorist safe haven, the military said, adding that two other suspects were captured.
US and Iraqi forces have been battling Sunni insurgents and Shiite militias for months in the area around the city of Baqouba, 60 kilometers northeast of Baghdad.
