US soldier killed by roadside bomb in Iraq

A US soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in the western section of the Iraqi capital while his unit was engaged in "route clearance operations," the military said Friday. A statement said the soldier died Thursday, but gave no other details. The name of the soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. At least 3,228 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
