US: Soldier killed by small arms fire in Baghdad

A US soldier was killed by small arms fire in western Baghdad while his patrol was returning to base from combat operations, the military announced Thursday. A statement said the soldier was killed Wednesday, but gave no further details. The deceased soldier's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. At least 3,225 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
