US soldier killed during fighting in Baghdad

A US soldier was killed Monday during fighting in Baghdad, the military said. The attack that killed the Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldier occurred in a western section of the capital, according to a statement. The soldier's unit has recently found numerous weapons caches in the area with more than 100 mortar rounds, 80 gallons (300 liters) of nitric acid and a variety of material used to make roadside bombs, it said. The identity of the deceased was not released pending notification of relatives.
