Yemeni president also won't attend Arab summit in Syria, sends vice president

A Yemeni official says Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh has changed his mind and now decided he won't attend the Arab League summit in Syria this weekend. Instead, Saleh is sending Vice President Abd Rabu Mansour to represent the country at the summit in Damascus. Heads of states or of government are usually meant to attend in person the yearly Arab League summit. The Yemeni presidential official making the announcement didn't give a reason for the decision. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he isn't authorized to talk to the media. Saleh had been slated to attend in person the summit. His change of heart comes two days after he visited Saudi Arabia, which is among a growing number of pro-US Arab nations snubbing Syria by sending low-level delegates.
