Criteria established for new IBA director-general

Because the IBA is a state enterprise, candidates must conform to rules set down for the employment of executives of state owned companies.

The committee charged with finding a suitable candidate to succeed Moti Sklaar, the outgoing director-general of the Israel Broadcasting Authority, held its first meeting on Tuesday to determine criteria for the qualifications demanded by applicants for the position.
Applicants must be residents of Israel and must be at least 25 years old with knowledge of and experience in communications and the media.

Because the IBA is a state enterprise, candidates must conform to rules set down for the employment of executives of state owned companies. In accordance with article 16a (1) of the State Companies Act, candidates must have an academic degree and at least five years working experience as a senior manager in a business enterprise or in an executive capacity as a public servant, preferably in some branch of the communications industry. Applicants are also expected to be familiar with economic, commercial and legal matters.
All these conditions are in addition to those set down in the amended Broadcasting Authority Law.
The committee will be accepting applications over the next three weeks, after which it will examine the suitability of candidates.
Although there has never been a female director-general of the IBA, this should not deter properly qualified females from applying for the position. Educational Television, which was the pioneer of television in Israel, has had more than one female director- general and Channel 10 had no qualms with appointing a female to the position of co-CEO.
