Tel Aviv’s Health Ministry office ordered the Carmel Food Industry factory in Bat Yam on Monday closed after inspectors found it had no ministry or local authority license and was functioning in very poor sanitary conditions. The ministry said on Thursday that it suspected that the company produced soy oil that was labeled as olive oil and other counterfeit products.The factory, at 3 Ha’avoda St., manufactured food products under the label “Carmel: Good Products From a Good Home” and other labels. A file was transferred to the State Attorney’s Office for an indictment.Inspectors sent samples of the products to ministry labs, and test results raised the suspicion that those labeled as olive oil and honey were counterfeit, along with others whose labels were liable to mislead consumers, the ministry said. It also suspected that a number of of these products were connected to some picked up in a national campaign held by the National Food Service a few months ago.
The public are warned against consuming these products.The suspect products were labeled as: Teva, Pure Olive Oil, sold exclusively by Bernovich and Sons, Moshav Amioz, best use before 12/2012. The inspectors said tests indicated it was soy oil and contained no olive oil. Spanish Pure Olive Oil, Seville, sold exclusively by Carmel, Good Products From a Good Home, best to use before 12/2012. The lab said tests indicated it was soy and not olive oil.Carmel honey, Good Products From a Good Home, 350 grams, Carmel Food Industries, 29 Habanai St., Holon. The lab tests indicated that the syrup was found not to be honey.Hagalil, Pure Honey, marketed exclusively by Shivuk Hadarom, best to use before 6/2012.Teva, Pure Olive Oil, marketed exclusively by Shivuk Hadarom, best use before 6/2012. The lab tests found its results were suited to soy and not olive oil.
