Less than one week after his release from Hamas captivity, Gilad Schalit received a visit at his home from President Shimon Peres on Monday.
Peres expressed his appreciation and admiration for Gilad's perseverance, praising that he withstood a "difficult test. So much time, many hours, days and years in a state of solitude and uncertainty," Schalit's father Noam recalled to Channel 10 following the visit.

Gilad, for his part, thanked Peres for taking the time to visit him at his Mitzpe Hila home.
Noam added that Gilad is feeling well and is eager to return to routine life. "He wants to return to a normal life, to play basketball, table tennis, to watch television and to slowly slowly return to [his] life."
Last week, only two days after Gilad's release, Noam said that his son felt good and had a good appetite, and had even played ping pong and met with friends over the Simhat Torah holiday.
Since then, the younger Schalit has been bicycle riding, gone on walks with his mother, met with friends and went to the beach with his father.
