A 16-year-old boy accidentally shot his friend to death during a game with a gun in a northern town on Saturday, police suspect.
Magen David Adom paramedics were called to a clearing outside Ilut, near Nazareth, by hikers who found a boy, 15, with a gunshot wound to the chest, and no signs of life.
The paramedics tried to revive the boy, but soon pronounced him dead.
Several hours later, detectives from the central unit of the northern police district arrested a 16-year-old resident of the village.
“We believe the youths apparently played with a weapon in their possession, and that one bullet was discharged,” a northern police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, in Kafr Kana, also near Nazareth, a game between two brothers turned into a tragedy, when one of the boys, 12, hanged himself.
The boys had been playing on the roof of the family home.
The 12-year-old told his brother, 10, that he was hanging himself with a rope.
The younger boy, frightened, ran to tell their parents, who scrambled to the roof and found their son unconscious and not breathing.
The family rushed the boy to the medical clinic in the town, where a doctor pronounced him dead.
