Arab League chief: Qatar calling for urgent meeting on Gaza
01/11/2009
Qatar has asked for an urgent meeting of Arab foreign ministers to discuss ways to end the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, Arab League chief Amr Moussa said Sunday. Moussa said he had started consultation with the Arab League's 22 member-states to set a date for the meeting, which could be held in Kuwait during an Arab economic summit next week. Qatar previously called for an Arab leadership summit on Gaza, but few Arab League members backed the proposal, preferring to give Egypt a chance to work out a cease-fire. Arabs are sharply divided over the crisis in Gaza, with some blaming Hamas and others supporting the group.
