Hamas not ready to shift stance, says Haniyeh
02/28/2006
Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas' designated prime minister on Tuesday said the group was not ready to shift its stance ahead of talks in Moscow this week. "At the moment the ball is in our court and we want Israel to recognize our rights, to return our refugees, to release our prisoners, and to recognize our state with the capital in East Jerusalem. Then Hamas would formulate its point of view," Haniyeh told Russian state television Rossiya in an interview in the Gaza Strip. Russia will call on Hamas to change its program when a delegation holds two days of talks in Moscow starting Friday, Russia's special Mideast envoy Alexander Kalugin, was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency Tuesday.
