The government on Sunday approved an Absorption Ministry initiative to subsidize apartments for single-parent families and elderly olim. 700 housing units in Lod, Kfar Saba, Beersheba, Ashkelon, Haifa and Nazareth Ilit will be renovated in preparation for the new occupants.

The olim will sign five-year contracts. During that time, they will enjoy financial security, as well as the round-the-clock services of a government representative who will be on hand to assist them.

“I am happy that we have succeeded in our joint efforts to find a solution for 700 families. In my opinion, this is a harbinger of public housing solutions to alleviate the severe housing shortages olim face,” Absorption Minister Sofa Landver (Israel Beiteinu) said in response to the government’s approval.
