Police on Sunday extended the remand of the Irish tourist who is suspected of having tried to stab a police officer at Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulcher by ten days.

The tourist allegedly drew a knife as priests and a policeman were walking among visitors at the holy site at closing time and requesting that they leave. Police said he threatened the visitors and tried to stab the policeman, who retaliated with pepper spray.

When the tourist attempted to run away, the policeman shot and arrested him.
