Diskin: Lawyers' strike could harm ongoing security cases

Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief Yuval Diskin warned Wednesday that the continued prosecutor’s strike could negatively affect sensitive ongoing security cases.
The Shin Bet is responsible for investigating security-related cases that also appear before civil courts and therefore work together with the State Prosecutor’s Office on cases involving Israeli citizens. Cases that involve Palestinians are usually brought before Military courts and therefore are handled by military prosecutors. In a statement released by the Shin Bet, Diskin said that he appreciates the responsibility that the prosecutors have demonstrated until now with their decision to continue appearing in court for security-related cases but expressed fear that this will change.
“The head of the Shin Bet expresses his concern with the ongoing strike and the possible harms that could be caused to cases of a security nature that do not have state representation,” the statement read.
